The existing cold room had not been functioning properly for two years, meaning staff were forced to use localised fridges to store specialist medicines.
Because the 8m3 room had been built into the fabric of the hospital more than 20 years ago, a complete replacement was not feasible. But we were able to upgrade the refrigeration equipment to ensure that the ward’s crucial medical supplies are stored correctly.
The New Cold Room Installation
The new 3kW system keeps the medicine between 2-5°C with a number of safeguards in place. Audible and visual alarms alert staff if the temperature is our of range and the system cuts off completely if the temperature drops below -2°C, meaning the medicines cannot freeze and spoil.
We installed a run and standby system providing 100% backup and the equipment is also connected to the hospital generator to ensure an uninterrupted power supply.
Operating data and alarm information is available through connection to the hospital’s building management system (BMS). This integration also means the hospital now has a computerised/email alarm.
All work was completed within a week with commissioning and handover by ourselves.
